The idea of people with so many mixed motivations, all watching / playing sports together is really fascinating! And I'm glad that there are ways for people with different interests to get what they want from the experience. I do wish there was something in there that I could enjoy though.
As for geeks trying to invert the status pyramid in their favor, I ... uh... definitely don't know anyone who would do that. ;-)
